I am a neurodivergent photographer based in the wonderful county of Dorset.
My photographic journey began in 2016 whilst on holiday in Canada and it is fair to say that I have been passionate about photography ever since. To start with I was a landscape photographer who meticulously planned outings, closely monitoring the weather forecast then setting out with a large rucksack and tripod in the hope of catching a blazing sunrise or sunset.
My photographic journey began in 2016 whilst on holiday in Canada and it is fair to say that I have been passionate about photography ever since. To start with I was a landscape photographer who meticulously planned outings, closely monitoring the weather forecast then setting out with a large rucksack and tripod in the hope of catching a blazing sunrise or sunset.
However, after a while I came to realise that the most interesting photos I took were of scenes which I simply stumbled across. So I now head out with just my camera (usually in my pocket) and take photos of whatever I find interesting and appealing.
Monochrome
My style of photography has continued to evolve and in 2018 I fell in love with monochrome photography. Passionate about black and white photography, I have created an extensive portfolio of work which illustrates my individual style. I use textures, patterns, reflections and shadows to highlight the interaction between shapes and light while at the same time trying to create well defined compositions and maintain a harmonious contrast between light and dark.
Film Photography
In the latter half of 2021 I ventured out with my newly purchased Minox 35GT. Instantly, I fell in love with the camera and the whole idea of shooting film. Not only have I moved away from digital photography, but I am now less reliant on the idea of instant gratification which I had become so used to. I now cherish the anticipation of seeing the images I have taken. Life has slowed down and that suits me fine. You can see some examples of my film images in my gallery.
The Royal Photographic Society
As a member of the Royal Photographic Society, I am delighted to have been awarded the LRPS and the ARPS distinctions in 2018. Two years later, in 2020 I was awarded my FRPS for a panel of images which illustrate what I describe as, "a version of my autistic reality."
Continuing my connection with The Royal Photographic Society, I am also a member of the recently formed "Equality, Diversity and Inclusion" Committee.

My Local Photographic Community
I feel it is important to be involved with my local photographic community. Not only does it provide me with the opportunity to share ideas with like minded people but also allows me to give something back in exchange for the help and support I have received from other people within the community. I am a member of both the Bridport Camera Club and the Dorset Independent Photographers Group as well as being the founding member of a monochrome critique group.
I also give both face to face and virtual talks to various organisations including camera clubs, community associations and charities.

Photography and Autism
Recently diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, I am keen to help other people on the autistic spectrum get involved in photography. Working alongside the National Autistic Society and the Royal Photographic Society, I am very excited to be running a free, 5 week online photography workshop for small groups of autistic adults.

The Odd Piece, is my first book which I have just finished writing and which will be available to purchase as a paperback and as an eBook in the next couple of months. Woven together with poetry and prose, The Odd Piece is an autobiographical narrative which explores my complex and often challenging relationship with autism.
